Lara Nikolau
"I've always been more interested in the moment before the smile than the smile itself."
Lara is a Paris-based photographer working across portraiture, weddings, fashion, and editorial commission. Her practice is built on patience — spending long, unhurried hours observing light and gesture before a single frame is made. The result is a body of work that feels less composed than discovered.
Originally trained in fine art painting before turning to the camera, she brings a painter's sense of tone and restraint to every shoot — favoring natural light, honest expression, and a muted, timeless palette over trend.
How I See
Light First
Every session begins with the light, not the pose. Direction, quality, and time of day dictate the entire shoot.
Unposed Moments
Direction is quiet and minimal — most of my favorite frames happen in the pause between instructions.
Restraint in Editing
A muted, consistent tone across every gallery. Nothing is over-processed; the goal is to feel timeless, not trendy.
